Chordant to Demonstrate New IoT Services That Optimize and Protect Mobile Networks

Chordant’s collaboration with Definition Networks will reach an important milestone with demonstration at oneM2M India Industry Day

WILMINGTON, DEL. (PRWEB) SEPTEMBER 11, 2019

Chordant and Definition Networks will provide a preview of a collaboratively developed suite of value-added services for cellular IoT, enabled by the oneM2M and 3GPP standards. This demonstration takes advantage of a combination of Chordant’s service capability server (SCS) and Definition Networks’ service capability exposure function (SCEF). The demonstration will take place at oneM2M’s sixth Industry Day. This event — which takes place this year in Hyderabad, India on September 25 — brings together representatives from government, mobile network operators and the IoT industry.

Chordant and Definition Networks started the technology collaboration earlier this year. This collaborative solution is particularly well-suited for cellular-based low-power wide area networks (LPWANs). Mobile network operators (MNOs) and several global standards bodies — including 3GPP and oneM2M — are preparing for rapid growth of IoT deployments, which will put unprecedented resource and cybersecurity demands on current and future mobile networks. MNOs look to solution providers like Chordant and Definition Networks — who are specialists in these types of technologies — to deliver standards-based services and technology that will help them take full advantage of the business opportunities presented by the Internet of Things.

This evolution requires a tailored approach, because a range of standards have to be taken into consideration. There are 3GPP LTE standards like NB-IoT and LTE-M (both part of 3GPP release 13) that are in use today, along with oneM2M’s Release 3 specifications. Looking ahead, the current 3GPP Release 15 — which is the first 5G NR release — includes the SCEF northbound API interface standard (also known as T8) that exposes several IoT-centric features. These features help address network congestion and network management associated with massive IoT, deliver improved security, and enhance overall device management and power resource efficiency.

“We believe it’s important to take a standards-based approach to this because it allows customers to have a greater degree of interoperability and future-proofing,” said Mika Rasinkangas, president of Chordant. “We believe that if we are helping MNOs achieve better efficiencies and protection of their networks, then we have achieved our goals. India is a forerunner having already adopted oneM2M (Release 2) into National Standards by Telecommunications Engineering Centre (TEC).”

The Industry Day demonstration includes IoT device management and the optimization of data delivery methods. It provides a practical demonstration of how these cellular IoT value-added services are enabled by the oneM2M and 3GPP standards. The demonstration will also be coupled with a presentation on the same topic by Bob Flynn, Member of the Technical Staff at Chordant.
